Biography
Samuel Abaijón · Mr. Moonhead
Samuel Abaijón was born on 31 October 1972 in Hämeenlinna, Finland, to a Finnish mother and a Spanish father. Shortly after his birth his family moved to Granada, Spain, where he grew up surrounded by the city's rich musical culture. He later returned to Finland and settled in Helsinki, where he has been a defining presence in the city's independent music scene for over two decades.
Working under the alias Mr. Moonhead, he co-founded The Valkyrians in 2002 — Finland's foremost ska and rocksteady band, who have toured more than twenty countries and charted on the Finnish national album chart. His career spans ten bands and projects, from 1960s garage rock and instrumental surf to dub, krautrock, and psychedelic indie pop.
As a solo artist under the name MOONHEAD, he creates music described as a laboratory of emotion, memory, and sound — rooted in the underground sounds that inspired him growing up between Finland and Spain. Since 2022 he has also been active as a live music promoter, booking bands and artists to perform at Café Ursula in Helsinki.

YouTube Channel
Premiered on 15 October 2021, Levylaukku is a short music magazine show filmed at Stupido Market in Helsinki, inspired by Amoeba Music's celebrated "What's In My Bag?" series. Artists visit the shop, dig through the racks, and share the records that have shaped their lives — the ones that changed everything, the ones that still give them chills.
With 56 episodes and nearly 2,000 subscribers, Levylaukku has become one of Finland's most compelling music programmes, described by Rumba magazine as one of the year's most interesting domestic music shows. Guests have included Finnish rock legend Ismo Alanko, punk pioneer Pelle Miljoona, and Hanoi Rocks bassist Sami Yaffa.
For everyone who believes a great record is worth a story.
